ICC Women’s World Cup 2017: Sanjay Manjrekar ripped apart by Twitterati for questioning Mithali Raj’s ‘defensive’ field tactics
“Mithali Raj's captaincy will decide the fate of this match. Too defensive currently. Fielders in the circle also trying to save boundaries,” Manjrekar had tweeted.
Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, who is part of the commentary team for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, was trolled on Twitter on Thursday (July 21) after he criticised Indian captain Mithali Raj’s ‘defensive style’ of leadership.
India batted first and racked up 281 for the loss of four wickets, courtesy of a splendid knock by Harmanpreet Kaur who scored an unbeaten 171 of 115 deliveries.
In the second innings, Australia were off to a poor start, as they lost 3 wickets for a mere 21 runs on the board. This was the time when Manjrekar questioned Mithali Raj’s ‘defensive’ field tactics. “Mithali Raj’s captaincy will decide the fate of this match. Too defensive currently. Fielders in the circle also trying to save boundaries,” he tweeted.

The tweet garnered several responses on Twitter, and the commentator had to face the ire of Indian fans, who reminded him that his game was anything, but aggressive.
How many times have you captained the national team in a world cup semi-final?
Manjrekar was also trolled for failing to forget that it was a 50-over game. Twice — first during the 37th over of Australia’s innings, Manjrekar said there were 13 overs left. And then he said that there were 12 overs remaining after the 38th over. It was not until someone in the commentary box corrected him that Manjrekar rectified his error, but it was too late.
Dear @sanjaymanjrekar It’s a 42 Over Game! Stop Saying After Every Over 12 Overs Left, 13 Overs Left! Once It’s a Mistake But Every Over??
