Tom Coooper’s all-round show helped Netherlands beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by six wickets in their ICC World T20 2014 Group B Qualifier match at Sylhet on Monday. Cooper, who claimed two wickets in the first innings, scored a crucial 34 not out off 26 balls to help his side win.
After bowling out UAE for 151, the Netherlands achieved the target in 18.5 overs with six wickets in hand.
Stephan Myburgh scored a fluent 55, while Matthew Swart (26) and Wesley Barresi (24) contributed significantly in their side’s win.
Earlier in the day, Tom Cooper struck twice in the same over before medium pacer Ahsan Malik ran through the lower-order as Netherlands shot out debutants United Arab Emirates (UAE) for 151 in their Qualifying Group B match of the ICC World T20 2014.
Electing to bat, UAE got off to a poor start, losing their openers Amjad Ali (5) and Faizan Asif (6) cheaply with just 12 runs on the board.
Skipper Khurram Khan (31) and Swapnil Patil (23) resurrected the innings with an attacking 67-run partnership for the third wicket. However, both were dismissed by Cooper in the 11th over to reduce the UAE to 81 for four.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) 151 in 19.5 overs (Khurram Khan 31, Shaiman Anwar 32; Ahsan Malik 3 for 16, Tom Cooper 2 for 18, Timm van der Gugten 2 for 24) lost to Netherlands 152 for 4 in 18.5 overs (Stephan Myburgh 55, Tom Cooper 34*) by 6 wickets.
