Shimla: Ex-servicemen in Himachal Pradesh have strongly opposed the ICC World T20 2016 match between India and Pakistan at Dharamsala on March 19 and asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider the issue, keeping in view the sentiments of families of martyrs and patriots. ” Terror and T-20 cannot go together and the BCCI must review its decision after terrorist attack on Pathankot airbase in which two jawans of Himchal Pradesh – Sanjeevan Rana and Jagdish Chand – were killed. It must honour and respect the sentiments of families of martyrs and other patriotic people,” Chairman of Ex-servicemen League Vijay Singh Mankotia said in a statement on Thursday. “By holding the T-20 match against Pakistan, the BCCI would be insulting the sacred memory of martyrs and undermining their heroic deeds and sacrifices and we appeal to the BCCI not to heap insult to injury as the patriotism and nationalism of BCCI would also be on test,” Mankotia, a former minister asserted. We are well prepared in case the government gives permission for the team to travel to India. The visa applications for the players and support staff have been processed, which is part of standard procedure,” PCB’s media director Amjad Hussain told PTI. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur had on Wednesday assured highest possible protection to the visiting teams for the mega event in March-April.
