Johannesburg: South Africa‘s leg-spinner Imran Tahir has said that he doesn’t know why he had frenzied wicket-taking celebrations after helping bowl his side to a nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their World Cup quarterfinal tie on Wednesday. READ: South Africa thrash Sri Lanka by 9 wickets

Man-of-the-match Tahir took four for 26 as in 8.2 overs as Sri Lanka were dismissed for just 133. And his celebrations after taking wickets were a sight for the spectators at the Sydney Cricket Ground , as the leg spinner threw his head back, screamed with joy before, pumping his arms, he set off on an uncoordinated run across the outfield. Tahir said that it was just something really, insisting that it’s just in him, adding that he surely doesn’t practice for that, Sport24 reported.

The leg-spinner said that he played a club game in Stoke in central England and took a very good catch, and added that he believes he ran out of the ground, so they had to tell him which way was back to the ground. He insisted that he was on the road and didn’t know where he was.

The Pakistan-born bowler added that it is just because he wants to enjoy everything he does for this team. He claimed that this is a dream because maybe there are a million people who do not have the opportunity that he has to play for South Africa. READ: South Africa thrash Sri Lanka highlights

Tahir claimed that it is just an absolute honour, and he believes that every wicket he takes is just for South Africa, for him, and it’s just given him such joy, and he believes that if he expresses it he doesn’t know why it comes out, insisting that he has no answer for this.

Tahir said his success on Wednesday and that of off-spinner JP Duminy, who took a hat-trick on his way to finish with figures of three for 29, owed much to the work of fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Kyle Abbott, who reduced Sri Lanka to eight for two, as well as their fellow paceman Morne Morkel.

Tahir insisted that he believes that the fast bowlers set the standard for them, adding that if they didn’t do well, then obviously it wasn’t going to be easier for the spinners as well
