Abhinav Mukund scored 83 while Kedar Jadhav and Smit Patel contributed significantly but their efforts went in vain as India Blue trumped the Red side by 11 runs in their NKP Salve Challenger Trophy 2013 match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Friday.

Chasing a huge target of 346 to win in 50 overs, India Red went down fighting with for 334 all-out in 49.5 overs.

Mukund missed out on a well deserved century as he fell for 83 off 86 balls hitting nine boundaries and a six, while Patel retired hurt on 67, and later on batted to take his contribution to 68 not out off 84 balls. Jadhav scored a fluent 49 before falling to Piyush Chawla.

With this win, India Blue have qualified for the tournament’s final.

For the India Blue side, R Vinay Kumar gave away 76 runs but claimed four key wickets.

Earlier, playing yet another innings of substance in his comeback bid, Yuvraj Singh hit a blistering half-century as India Blue batted superbly to post a massive 345 for four against India Red in the Challengers Series, here today.

Both Yuvraj and opener P Akshat Reddy scored 84 runs each but former’s knock came off just 53 balls as he punished the India Red bowler with 11 boundaries, including five sixes.

Reddy’s 84 came off 96 balls with five fours and two shots over the fence.

Abhishek Nayar also tormented the rival bowlers with his fiery unbeaten 75-run knock that came off just 39 balls.

Yuvraj and Nayar plundered 151 runs in just 13 overs in their fourth wicket partnership, which ended with former’s run out in the last over of the innings.

India Blue 345 for 4 in 50 overs (Yuvraj Singh 84, Akshath Reddy 84, Abhishek Nayar 75*) beat India Red 334 in 49.5 overs (Abhinav Mukund 83, Smit Patel 68*, Kedar Jadhav 49; R Vinay Kumar 4 for 76) by 11 runs.
