The first T20 International between India and Ireland is the 100th for India. India made their T20I debut against on December 6, 2006 against South Africa, which they won by 6 wickets. Within a year India won the World T20, in 2007, and have won 61 of the 99 matches played. India has the second-best win percentage of 63.4, and are only behind Afghanistan (66.7). The other teams that have played more than 100 matches are Pakistan (128), New Zealand (111), Sri Lanka (108), South Africa (103) and Australia (100).

India are currently ranked third in ICC T20I ratings, with 123. Only Pakistan (131) and Australia (126) are ahead of India. Ireland, on the other hand, are ranked 17th (out of 17 teams) with 36. The match is being played at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground. India will play one more T20I in the series, on June 29 at the same venue. They will then head to England for 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Test matches, starting July 3.
