The India and New Zealand cricket teams arrived in the city on Tuesday evening for their second Test match at the Eden Gardens starting on Friday. Both the outfits reached the eastern metropolis from Kanpur via Lucknow. India lead the three-Test series 1-0, courtesy a 197-run win over the Kiwis in Kanpur. The Kiwis will miss spinner Mark Craig as he is injured. He has been replaced with Jeetan Patel. As far as India are concerned, they will not ave the services of KL Rahul and as a result, we might see Gautam Gambhir being included in the squad. A win for India will see them seal the series, with one match to go.
This will be India’s 250th Test at home. There have been many programs organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to mark this historical event. In the first Test, it was Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up five-wicket haul and also contribute with the bat, with a fifty in the second innings, to help India win the match in a convincing manner. Virat Kohli has led the team well and he will be keen to lead India to a fourth series win in a row. Kohli has led Team India to series wins against Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies before this.
Ravichandran Ashwin became the second fastest in the world to reach 200 Test wickets. he along with Jadeja will once again be crucial if India are to win the second Test. The win at Kanpur was India’s 500th Test in their history, a journey, which began way back in 1932.
