India have posted 291 for the loss of seven wickets against Sri Lanka in their ICC Under-19 World Cup 5th place playoff encounter, batting first at the Dubai International Cricket stadium.
After losing the toss and being put to bat first, Ankush Bains and Akhil Herwadkar opened the batting for India since Vijay Zol was sitting out the match. Therefore, Sanju Samson is acting as the captain for the match.
India got off to a good start with the openers adding 57 for the first wicket before Herwadkar fell to Heshan Ramanayake in the 10th over. Shreyas Iyer then came to the crease, and added 23 quick runs with Bains before Bains departed in the 13th over, leaving the score at 80 for the loss of two wickets.
Iyer and Samson then strung an 87-run partnership which propelled India’s score t0 167, but then Ramanayake got his second wicket of the match in the form of Iyer, who departed for a well-made 59. Five overs later, Samson (40) too lost his wicket, and India suddenly found themselves in trouble again. Sarfaraz Khan lasted just three balls, as Anuk Fernando grabbed his wicket too in the 33rd over.
Ricky Bhui then fell in the 35th over, leaving India tottering at 179 with half the side back in the hut. Spinner, Deepak Hooda then rescued India’s faltering innings, and with some help from the other tail-enders, he pushed India’s total to 291 for the loss of seven wickets by the end of 50 overs. Hooda remained not out on 76 off 56 balls.
