India register biggest innings victory outside Asia

West Indies will be looking to bounce back in the series in the second Test at Jamaica, beginning from July 30.

India won the first Test against West Indies at Antigua by an innings and 92 runs. This is India’s biggest margin of victory in terms of innings outside Asia. Virat Kohli scored 200 in the first innings and was helped by Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 113 in helping India post 566 for 8 in the first innings. Shikhar Dhawan and Amit Mishra too scored fifties. In reply, West Indies were bowled out for 243 in the first innings. India enforced the follow-on as they had a 323-run first innings lead. In the second innings, West Indies were bowled out for 231. Marlon Samuels scored his first fifty in nearly a year and Carlos Brathwaite struck an unbeaten fifth down the order. On Day 1, India won the toss and elected to bat first. India went in with five bowlers in this match and it paid off. West Indies on the other hand went in with a rather inexperienced team. With the retirement of Jerome Taylor ahead of the series, the do not have a quality bowler leading the attack.
