With a rigorous schedule for Indian cricket team in 2018, it is hard to find a slot for players to take rest or a break, unless an injury. Owing to this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to give Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah rest for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy 2018.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Kohli, Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (tentative) will be rested for the T20I Tri-Series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The series will be played from March 8 to March 18. A source close to the team, said: “Look, this thought (of resting seniors) has been crossing the minds of selectors. They also believe that it’s only logical to give rest to regular performers who have been managing the workload in all three formats of the game. The tour of South Africa has been tough on their bodies. The Sri Lanka tour offers an ideal scenario to rest some key players while checking the bench-strength.”

Rohit Sharma is likely to return to captaining the side in Kohli’s absence. Kolhi has missed the limited-overs leg against Sri Lanka in December 2017 due to his wedding with Bollywood star Anushka Sharma. Bumrah has played non-stop cricket since his arrival in South Africa.
