As expected the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced Dinesh Karthik  as Wriddhiman Saha’s replacement for India’s upcoming Test against Afghanistan. The one-off Test will be played at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Bangalore from June 14.  Saha has been advised rest by BCCI’s medical team, and is expected to regain fitness in 5-6 weeks. Karthik has played 23 Tests in his 14-year-long career, 7 of them as a specialist batsman.

Karthik’s last Test appearance for India was in 2010. Saha is now fighting time to get fit ahead of India’s England tour starting August. India clash against hosts in a 5-Test series, after completing the ODI and T20I leg. Parthiv Patel was the other option for the selectors, but given Karthik’s form in the recently concluded IPL, it would been hard to keep him out.

Karthik has a prolific First-Class record with 27 hundreds and over 9,000 runs. For KKR in IPL 2018, Karthik accumulated 498 runs from 16 games at 49.80.
