India posted 474 against Afghanistan in the latter’s maiden Test, at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Umesh Yadav then got the wicket of Rahmat Shah, leg-before, to become the 8th Indian pacer to register 100 Test wickets. The ball was pitched on middle and off, and the lack of bounce caught Rahmat in front of the stumps, making the decision easy for the umpire. Umesh equalled the record with Irfan Pathan, and went past him by the time this was published. He reached this landmark in his 37th match.

Coming to bat after lunch Afghanistan started well with fortune favouring their way for a while. However, a brilliant fielding effort from Hardik Pandya ran Mohammad Shahzad out for 14. Ishant Sharma then dismissed Javed Ahmadi with a brilliant in-swinging delivery going between the bat and pad of the batsman uprooting off stump.
