His side staring at defeat on a crumbling Chepauk pitch, Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques does not find any problem about India offering turning tracks and said his teammates should “enjoy” the challenge of playing on such conditions.

“It’s terrific as cricketers we get to go to different nations and play in different conditions. It’s so different to wickets we get in Australia. It’s so enjoyable, even if it hits your glove it’s still enjoyable. It’s just good fun,” Henriques told reporters at the press conference after fourth day’s play here.

“It’s very frustrating when you get out. Very frustrating but you have to enjoy. That is the difference. I think it’s a terrific day that cricket being such a world game that has so many different tough conditions,” said Henriques, who was holding fort on 75 with Nathan Lyon for the last wicket.

Australia ended the day on 232 for nine in their second innings, just 40 runs ahead of India overall with just one wicket in hand.

Asked further about the wicket, Henriques, who had played in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, said it was difficult to bat on and some of his team-mates got out to superb deliveries which they could not do much to fend off.

“I think the bounce was uneven and I had a couple of balls hit my gloves in the early part of innings and I was lucky enough that those balls went straight to ground. Sometimes luck went my way today. It is tough wicket to start on especially against spin,” he said.

“Indian team has quality spinners and it looked easier most times when it spin out there but it became difficult when they hit the rough there and the balls were jumping. So, the ball that Phil Hughes got and Shane Watson got I think they popped up and they really could not do much. I think if you get out to ball like that then you know you cannot really do anything about it,” he said.

Asked about the reaction at the dressing room when the ball began to turn almost square, he said, “Clarke told us that we just got to play according to conditions and if you get a ball like that, you can’t do anything much. I think there is nothing that Michael could have done with such ball.”

Henriques conceded that the odd were heavily stacked against his side at the end of the day’s play.

“Obviously it is stacked against us at the moment. But we have not lost this Test yet. Certainly, there are lots of hopes. You just do not know what will happen tomorrow. But we are going to take tomorrow being the underdogs. Whether it is rain or whatever it is, you just never know,” he said.

“I guess whatever we get tomorrow it has to be enough.

Nathan did a fantastic job and if he keeps batting like this tomorrow, hopefully I can squeeze some runs tomorrow. We will not be setting targets but we will bat as long as we can.”

Henriques was in awe of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his blistering knock of 206 which took the game away from Australia.

“It’s disappointing for us he came up with such a knock. But at the end of it, it’s amazing. With everyone of us in the deep he hit the ropes. It’s a terrific knock. I am playing my first Test and never seen anything like that before.”

“When he first came in to bat there were a couple of chances for us but a couple of balls disappeared in the mid wicket. He made batting look so easy. He started wearing down our bowlers. You got to remember how hard he was coming and how aggressive he was coming. But how easy he made it look like. You got to remember that,” he said.

Asked if he was enjoying his first Test, Henriques said, “It has been a fantastic experience whether I contributed or not. Representing Australia is amazing. To be on same field with players like Sachin, Shewag, Dhoni, Harbhajan and Michael Clarke, you have to keep pinching yourself.”

On the performance of Indian slow bowlers Harbhajan and Ravindra Jadeja, Henriques said, “Both of them are terrific bowlers, especially Harbhajan, having taken over 500 Test wickets and needless to say any more. Jadeja really bowled well. He got the odd ones to spin past the bat and I could not really do anything about it.”
