On the eve of India-Australia One-Day International (ODI) series, the hosts were in a spot of bother after Akshar Patel injured himself. Patel sprained his left-ankle during practice and has now been replaced by Ravindra Jadeja. As luck would have it, Patel was selected ahead of Jadeja for the first three ODIs of the series. Patel was also involved in the recently concluded India-Sri Lanka ODI series in Sri Lanka. The first ODI between India and Australia will be played at Chennai on Sunday.

It was Patel who replaced Jadeja in the Test series against Sri Lanka last month in the third Test, after ICC banned the latter. Patel has been advised rest and will be constantly under check by BCCI medical team. Just two days ago, Shikhar Dhawan was flown back to Delhi to take care of his ailing wife. No replacement has been named for him. India are not the only team struggling with injuries. Australia too recalled in Peter Handscomb as cover for Aaron Finch.

Finch is yet to regain full fitness after a calf injury he suffered playing in England.
