FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia, 1st Test at Pune
India have been on a glorious run during their recent home marathon, as they have been on a winning spree in their past three home series this season, starting with New Zealand, whom they whitewashed 3-0; followed by England, whom they beat 4-0; and also went on to win the only-Test against Bangladesh. Therefore, they would certainly be aiming to make it four in a row against the mighty Australians, and dominate their spot at the top of the ICC Test Rankings, as well as finish the ICC Calendar as the top Test playing nation, and claim the ICC Test maze.
Australia, on the other hand, too have been impressive in their previous Test series, which they played against Pakistan at home, and convincingly won it 3-0, registering a whitewash. However, they did not have their best home season so far, as they lost 1-2 to South Africa in November. Therefore, although they too would be aiming to come up with a winning performance against India in this Test series, their litmus test awaits them in this contest, as they will certainly have to go through an uphill task to face the Indians in their backyard, who are in a superb form. As for Australia, they are definitely shaky, and the current team is not experienced enough to brave the Indian conditions.
Australia will also have to watch out for their previous poor record, when back in 2012-13, they suffered a whitewash for the first time ever in India, as then skipper MS Dhoni and his men played some excellent cricket to tame the mighty Aussies. Therefore, if Australia need to turn things around, and change the perception about the current Australian side’s inability to live up to the expectations in India, they certainly need to come up with a champion’s performance.
