As Australia gear up for the tough tour of India , all-rounder James Faulkner is hopeful of getting picked in the Test side. Australia will play four Tests in India and Faulkner, who has played good cricket in subcontinent earlier, is looking forward to earn a place. He will have a chance to prove himself better among his peers Mitchell Marsh and Hilton Cartwright with the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan. However with an ODI series in New Zealand and a Twenty20 International (T20I) series with Sri Lanka to be played around the same time, his chances look dicey.

Speaking to nine.com.au, Faulkner said, “I’ve spent a lot of time playing cricket in the subcontinent, I’d like to think my name’s there or thereabouts, being spoken about. But you’d have to ask the selectors, captain and coach. I’m just taking each series as it comes. There’s a lot of cricket to be played before a lot of players will start thinking about that. They want an all-rounder who can bat in the top six. Hopefully I can try and grab some opportunities.”

Speaking about George Bailey, who did not get a place in the ODI squad against Pakistan, Faulkner added, “There’s a lot of experience we will lose in the change room but having said that, we’ve still got a hell of a lot sitting there. I’m good mates with George, I played a lot of cricket for Australia and Tassie with him. I definitely learned a lot. I’m sure if I was in his position he’d be disappointed and upset for me. I’m the same.”
