Mohammed Shami has been recalled to the Indian ODI setup for the upcoming series against Australia at home. Shami, from the sidelines of Bengal Ranji team’s training session at Eden Gardens, spoke about India’s preparation against Australia. The Bengal pacer emphasised on the importance of executing the plans in place for each batsmen especially against the likes of David Warner and Steven Smith.

“We have some plans for each of their batsmen — (especially Smith and Warner). There is always some new plan in place. The key is about executing it on the field,” Shami was quoted saying by PTI. The second ODI of the series will be played on September 21 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, which is Shami’s home ground. Excited to play his maiden ODI at home, Shami added, “It’s a matter of pride to play an ODI at my home ground. I hope to make it count and deliver for my team,” Shami said.

Shami was one of India’s stars in the 2015 World Cup but injuries prevented him playing for over a year. He also struggled to find his way into the ODI XI and had to wait over 2 years to make a comeback. He last played against West Indies at Jamaica.

Shami had earlier said that India is prepared for Australia’s sledging tactics and the world champions will encounter similar aggression if they decide to dish out some. India have been an aggressive lot especially after Virat Kohli took over the reins from MS Dhoni.

India recently clean swept Sri Lanka 9-0 across all 3 formats and are eyeing a similar result against Australia. Shami feels replicating the same against Australia would not be easy.

“Australia are a strong team. It’s difficult to say that (clean sweep) but we will try our best for a good show. The conditions will play a big role,” said Shami, who has a fantastic record in ODIs (91 wickets from 49 ODIs at just over 24).

India will play 5 ODIs against Australia followed by 3 T20Is.
