Just hours after suffering a second consecutive loss to India, Australia received news that Pat Cummins will be giving the upcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series a miss. Cummins will return to Australia after the completion of the ongoing five One-Day International (ODI) series in a bid to prepare for The Ashes.
Confirming the news national selector Trevor Hohns said, “Pat has played a considerable amount of cricket this year after a long period away from the game due to injury.” His statement further adds, “His body has handled the return to international cricket well, but we believe the best plan for him ahead of the Ashes Series is to return home to refresh, both mentally and physically, before he prepares for Sheffield Shield cricket.”
No replacement has yet been named but an official announcement is expected soon. Cummins, who participated in the Bangladesh Test series was seen sweating buckets across the matches apart from struggling to cope with the heat.
Even in the ongoing ODI series, Cummins has been far from impressive. He has picked just one wicket in the 2 ODIs.
The first Ashes Test will begin on November 23 at Gabba, Brisbane.
