Australia announced the squad for India tour on Sunday where they included uncapped Mitchell Swepson. Australia’s regular opener Shaun Marsh is back in the Test squad and he will find himself alongside new in-form opening batsman Matt Renshaw. Renshaw made a sparkling start to his Test career which helped him retain his spot in the Australia Test squad for the India tour. Although Marsh is included in the Test squad, his spot in Test XI is dicey. His score of 130 against Sri Lanka as well as his previous success in Asia may persuade the selectors to bring him back in the Test XI. Marsh has mentioned that he is happy to bat anywhere in the Test side for India tour.
Even if Renshaw opens in India tour, Marsh’s only hope of playing in first Test is if he is slotted in down the order, even as low as No. 6. Speaking to cricket.com.au, Marsh said, “It doesn’t matter where they want to bat me. I’d be happy to bat anywhere. I’m sure they’ve got their ideas at the moment. I’ll just prepare as well as I can and see which way they go.” Renshaw is averaging 63 after four Tests and Marsh was impressed by the 20-year-old’s fiery start. He further added, “It’s exciting times to see a young guy come through like that for Australia.” Marsh will be making his return to the Test side after his injury. Marsh has been impressive in the ongoing BBL edition for Perth Scorchers.
Marsh is hoping to score big in BBL consequently in India tour as well. Speaking about his stint in BBL, Marsh added, “The confidence is there. It’s got nothing to do with confidence at the moment. I just need to get a few away. And if I can do that, I’ll be alright.”
Marsh concluded, “It’s been a bit frustrating the last couple of weeks. But I guess that’s T20 cricket. I felt really good in the nets the last week or so. I know it’s not far away.”
