Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Kusal Mendis in the previous match to equal Ravindra Jadeja as India’s fourth highest wicket-taker in T20Is. In the fifth match of the Nidahas Trophy, between India and Bangladesh, Chahal bagged the wicket of  Bangladeshi skipper Mahmudullah to take his 32nd T20I wicket and go past Jadeja.

After bowling a couple of wide deliveries, Chahal lured Mahmudullah with a short ball, which the batsman pulled to KL Rahul at midwicket.

It took 40 T20Is for Jadeja to get to 31 wickets and in contrast, Chahal, the leg-spinner, has taken just 20 matches. Chahal is now only behind Ashish Nehra (34 wickets), Jasprit Bumrah (41 wickets) and Ravichandran Ashwin (52 wickets) in the list of highest wicket-takers for India.

Chahal made his international debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2016. He became a regular member in the shortest format since early 2017 and emerged as one of the finest wrist-spinners in limited overs. He rose in reputation after his exploits for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

Put in to bat first, India were powered to 176 for 3 in their 20 overs, courtesy a century-stand from Rohit Sharma (89) and Suresh Raina (47). At the time of publishing, Bangladesh were 61 for 4 in 8.4 overs.
