Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied India in their second innings against England in the first Test at Trent Bridge on Thursday. Resuming post tea at 57 for one, the batsmen had little to worry on a slow dull track. India are 78 for one with a lead of 39. Vijay is on 27 and Pujara is on 19.
Vijay was dropped once off Ben Stokes’ bowling. Skipper Alastair Cook removed all the slips and Vijay’s edge flew past the keeper which could’ve been an easy catch for first slip. England pacers are bowling straighter and getting some pace off the wicket.
After being frustrated and humiliated by the 10th-wicket partnership, India had the tricky task to not let the long duration in the field affect their batting. Given the nature of the wicket, the task was much easier. There were some nervous moments for the openers against new ball but once they settled in, it was business as usual. Shikhar Dhawan threw away his wicket in the greed for quick runs just before tea out for 29.
