The statistical highlights of the third day’s play in the third  Test between India and England are as follows:

# Murali Vijay has totalled 352 runs (Ave 70.40) in five innings, including a hundred and two fifties. His performance is his second best in a Test series behind the 430 (Ave 61.42) in four Tests against Australia in 2012-13. Gary Ballance has managed more runs than Vijay in the present series — his tally being 364 (Ave 91.00), including two centuries and a fifty.

# Ajinkya Rahane (54 off 113 balls) has posted his third fifty in Tests — his first against England. The knock is his second highest score against England, behind the 103 at Lord’s in the current rubber.

# Rahane has recorded five innings of fifty-plus away from home — his tally is 589 (Ave 53.54) in 12 innings. He remains the only Indian batsman to average fifty-plus overseas since January 2013 (minimum 300 runs).

# Virat Kohli (39 off 75 balls) has recorded his highest Test score (39) in England. In the present series, he is averaging 14.60 — his aggregate being 73 in five innings.

# Kohli and Vijay were involved in a stand of 32 for the third wicket — their highest partnership. The pair is averaging 10.71 in seven innings — the tally being 75.

# Pujara and Vijay have taken their partnership tally to 1111 (Ave 65.35) in 17 innings. The pair is the only one to amass 1,000 runs since January 2011 for India.

# Vijay-Pujara pair has managed 554 (Ave 55.40) in 10 innings — the highest by an Indian pair away from home since January 2011.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni, With his 10th half century against England, has joined Dave Nourse (South Africa). Both batsmen share a record for most fifties against an opponent without recording a century.

# By hitting a six off Ali, Dhoni became the first Test captain to complete 50 sixes. Brian Lara (49), Clive Lloyd (48) and Vivian Richard (46) are the next four in the list.

# Dhoni has recorded his sixth fifty in Tests in England. His tally is exceeded only by South Africa’s John Waite (seven). Rodney Marsh also posted six fifties in England for visiting wicketkeepers.

# Dhoni is all set to complete 1,000 runs against England during the present series – his latest tally being 971 (ave.33.48) in 19 Tests.
