Statistical highlights for the fifth day of the third Test between India and England.

# Jos Buttler (85 off 83 balls + 6 catches) is the third wicketkeeper to take five catches or more and post a fifty on Test debut. Sri Lanka’s Chamara Dunusinghe and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist were the first two to accomplish the all-round feat.

# Dunusinghe, Alan Knott, Brian Taber and Chris Read are the only four wicketkeepers to have taken seven catches in a Test match on debut.

 

# Rahane has posted a fifty in each innings of a Test match for the second time – 51 not out & 96 against South Africa at Durban in December 2013 and 54 & an unbeaten 52 against England at Southampton in July 2014.

# Rahane became the fourth number five batsman from India to register two fifty-plus innings in an overseas Test. He has joined Sourav Ganguly (thrice), Polly Umrigar (twice) and Rusi Surti.

# England’s 266-run magnificent win is their third highest against India — the highest two are — by 319 runs at Trent Bridge in 2011 and by 279 runs at Leeds in 1986.

# England’s aforesaid win is their 28th (lost six and drawn 21) out of 55 Tests contested against India in England.

# In all, they have won 41, lost 21 and drawn 48 out of 110 contested against India — success rate is 37.27.

# Cook’s aggregate of 3890 (ave.58.93) in 43 Tests is an England record in Test wins.

# Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, India have won three, lost seven and drawn three out of 13 contested – losing % 53.84.

The seven losses suffered by Dhoni is the highest by any captain in England-India Tests.

# England have produced a win after failing to record a single Test victory in previous ten games.

 

# Moeen Ali (6/67) has recorded his first instance of five wickets in an innings in Tests, eclipsing the 3 for 105 vs India at Nottingham in the present rubber.

# Moeen has claimed eight wickets for 129 runs – his best figures in a Test match. He became the fifth England spinner to register a five-wicket haul in a Test innings against India at home. Ray Illingworth is the only England bowler to register two such instances — 6 for 29 at Lord’s in 1967 and 5 for 70 at The Oval in 1971.

# Moeen’s above performance is the second best by an England spinner in a Test innings against India in England behind the 6 for 29 by Ray Illingworth at Lord’s in 1967.

# Ali has captured 15 wickets in the present rubber — the seventh occasion when a spinner has taken 15 wickets or more in a series against India outside the sub-continent.

# West Indian, Jack Noreiga was the last spinner to claim 15 wickets or more in a Test series against India outside the sub-continent – 17 (ave.29.00) in four Tests in 1970-71.

# Bhuvneshwar Kumar, having faced 481 balls in the series, has established a record by No 9 batsman in a Test series.

# Mohammed Shami has posted his third duck in Tests.

# James Anderson has captured Dhoni’s wicket six times in 17 Tests — the most occasions a bowler has dismissed him.

# Anderson has received his seventh Man of the Match award in Tests – his third against India.

# Anderson has got two Man of the Match award in a Test series for the first time.
