India registered their third-worst defeat in Test cricket during their loss at The Oval. England lost by an innings and 244 runs and that was a bigger defeat than their innings and 242-run humiliation at Edgbaston during the 2011 series. India were bowled out for 94 on Day Three at The Oval when they were going after an England lead worth 338.

India’s worst defeat came against the West Indies in 1958 at Kolkata when they were beaten by an innings and 336 runs. Their second worst defeat also came to England in the year 1974 when they were beaten by an innings and 285 runs.
