Lord’s: Jul 19, 2014

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the man who can do no wrong on this tour, was pleased with his performance at the home of cricket. “It is always a dream to play at Lord’s and to get wickets here is always great.” However, he added, “More important is to get them out as early as possible tomorrow.”

The gameplan was not that complicated. “It was simple, to bowl outside the off stump and attack the wicket. If the wicket is supporting then we have to be disciplined.”

The paceman agreed that the wicket has eased a lot from the first day. “Especially after the first session it gets slower. Now it is a bit easier to bat, but there is still enough if you bowl in the right areas.”

When asked if Indians were in a better position now, Bhuvneshwar said it was too early to say. “The day has been good, but it depends on tomorrow. If we get them early then we will be in a good position”

According to the Indian pacer, getting Alastair Cook early has helped the visitors a lot. “Cook is a batsman who if he gets in he scores heavily. So it is important for us to keep him quiet.”

Bhuvneshwar agreed that such conditions could not be expected in India. “We get the opportunity to bowl in this sort of conditions only in England, or Australia, New Zealand, South Africa.”

He also said that the day was one of the best for the Indian bowlers as a pace bowling unit. “After the first session the wicket got easy for the batsmen, but we bowled with discipline and we kept them quiet.”

When asked about his batting, Bhuvneshwar said, “I am enjoying my batting in England and the partnership with Ajinkya (Rahane) was really good because the conditions were not easy, the ball was swinging around.”
