India faced an early blow on Day Three when Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed for three runs short of his half-century early on. India lost a wicket early on Day Three without adding a run to their total as Pujara was cleaned up by Jake Ball, in the fourth Test of the ongoing series at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday. Vijay opened innings with KL Rahul to reply England’s 400 in their first innings. The two started off decently but Rahul departed scoring 24, bringing Pujara at the crease. Vijay and Pujara built up a strong partnership to provide a smooth start to India’s innings and having faced decent number of deliveries, now look set at the crease. Had Pujara scored a fifty, it could have been his 11th half-century. He hit 6 fours in the process and faced 104 balls.
During this innings, Pujara also became the 12th Indian batsman to complete 1,000 runs in Test cricket versus England. The tourists put up 400 runs batting in their first innings. Keaton Jennings, who made his international debut in the match, became the third England cricketer to have scored a century on debut against India. His 112 pushed England to the big total. Alastair Cook’s 46 and Moeen Ali’s 50 were crucial contribution in the top-order. Jos Buttler added a good 76 batting at No. 7 and ensured England put up good runs on the board. It was the spin-couplet of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja that picked up all the wickets. Ashwin bagged 6 wickets while Jadeja got 4 wickets.
India are ahead in the series winning two matches in the series already and will be eager to win this match and win the series straight away. England will look to win the match to keep the hopes alive to end the series in draw.
