When Team India for England series was set to be announced, there were murmurs around Yuvraj Singh’s name being a part of the squad. While his diehard fans were expecting it to become a reality, cricket experts feared if so happened, will be a regressive step. They felt the batsman was past his prime now and it won’t be fair on the youngsters’ part, who deserve to be in the team. The team was finally announced and Yuvraj was a part of it. His fans celebrated. The critics called it a poor selection, with selectors keeping their back towards the future.

Yuvraj failed in the first game, giving his critics an opportunity to sharpen their knives and train their guns at him. However, against all odds, the champion batsman came out hard in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Cuttack and slammed his highest ODI score (150). His hundred, which came when India needed it the most, helped the team score big and register a win in a closely-fought game. Once again his fans celebrated, while his critics looked for shelter to hide. One of his fans — perhaps the biggest — who was uninhibited in the expression of her happiness was his wife of two months, Hazel Keech.

After the Cuttack hundred, which earned him Man-of-the-Match award, Hazel took to photo-sharing site Instagram to post an emotional tribute to her husband. Her post has since been going viral on social media and winning several hearts. “’Fierce’ should be his middle name,” her post, which is about Yuvraj’s century against England and fight against cancer, has since received almost 27,000 ‘likes’ and hundreds of comments.

“150 runs from 127 balls, Man of the Match, India won 2-0 against England in ODIs. Not forgetting coming back from CANCER, getting his health and fitness back post chemo therapy and finally being in the ODI team after all of that. Throw in a wedding somewhere. That, ladies and gentleman, it what it looks like to never give up. There’s the difference in surviving cancer and beating cancer #doitagain #takeyourlifeback #YuvrajFierceSingh #hero #ywc @yuvisofficial,” her complete post read.

Apart from Hazel, several other current and former cricketers and Bollywood celebrities also tweeted their praises for Yuvraj after his astonishing knock. Yuvraj and Hazel had tied the knot at gurudwara in Chandigarh on November 30 last year, followed by a second ceremony according to Hindu traditions in Goa on December 2.
