Statistical highlights on the second day of the first Test between India and England, on Friday.

 

# Yuvraj Singh (74 off 151 balls) has registered his fourth half-century against England – his eleventh in Tests.

 

# Yuvraj’s last fifty in Tests was 62 against England at Trent Bridge in 2011.

 

# Yuvraj is averaging 46.66 against England as against his overall Test average of 35.55.

 

# In 17 Tests on Indian soil, Yuvraj has completed his 1000 runs, aggregating 1001 at an average of 43.52, including a hundred and seven fifties.

 

# Cheteshwar Pujara and Yuvraj have shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 130 – India’s highest against England at Sardar Patel Stadium.

 

# Jonathan Trott has posted his second duck in Tests – his first against India.

 

# Ravichandran Ashwin‘s batting record is reasonably good, averaging 36.40 in 2011 and 38.80 in 2012.

 

# Graeme Swann‘s superb bowling figures of 5 for 144 are his second best against India – his best are six for 106 in the 2011 Oval Test. His 14th instance of five wickets or more in an innings in Tests is his second against India.

 

# Swann has taken five wickets or more in an innings ten times away from home. Sydney Barnes (15), Ian Botham (10) and Swann (10) are the three England bowlers to have produced ten instances or more of five wickets in an innings away from home.

 

# Swann (44 wickets at an average of 32.15, including three instances of five wickets in an innings and one instance of ten wickets in a match) requires six wickets to become the first bowler to complete 50 wickets in Tests this year. He is the leading wicket-taker in Tests in 2012.

 

# Swann is the first English spinner to take five wickets or more in an innings ten times away from home.

 

# Swann, for the third time in an innings, has bowled fifty or more overs. He had recorded figures of 52-10-151-0 against South Africa at The Oval in 2012 – the most overs bowled by him in an innings.

 

# Swann conceded 144 runs, equalling John Emburey’s tally in the 1992-93 Mumbai Test (59-14-144-2). Emburey and Swann share an unwanted record of conceding most runs in a Test innings for England in a Test match in India.

 

# The top three English spinners in the sub-continent are – Derek Underwood (73), Swann (58) and Ashley Giles (52).

 

# India (521/8d) have posted their second highest total at Sardar Patel Stadium – their highest is 583 for seven wickets declared against New Zealand in 1999-2000.

 

# India have recorded ten totals of 500 or more against England in Tests.

 

# In just nine games, Ravichandran Ashwin has reached his 50 wickets – the fastest for India in Tests, eclipsing Anil Kumble‘s feat of recording the milestone in ten Tests.

 

# Cheteshwar Pujara’s superb unbeaten 206 off 389 balls is his first double hundred in Test Cricket, bettering the 159 against New Zealand at Hyderabad this year.

 

# Pujara became the sixth Indian player to post a double hundred against England in Tests. He has joined Gundappa Viswanath, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Vinod Kambli and Rahul Dravid.

 

# Pujara is the fourth Indian batsman to post a double century against England in Tests in India.

 

# Pujara is the third Indian player to post a double hundred at Sardar Patel Stadium, joining Rahul Dravid (222 against New Zealand in 2003-04) and Sachin Tendulkar (217 against New Zealand in 1999-2000).

 

# Pujara and Ashwin have added 66 for the seventh wicket – India’s highest against England at Sardar Patel Stadium.
