India vs England: The growing list of MS Dhoni critics

MS Dhoni recent string of slow scoring performances might not be something that worries Indian skipper Virat Kohli, but the former Indian captain’s struggles in the middle has definitely raised a few questions over the maverick batsmen’s ability to finish games.

And there has been a steady growth of former cricketers and experts who are now coming out in open criticising Dhoni’s batting approach during the recently concluded India vs England ODI series.

Here’s a compilation of who said what on Dhoni:

Sourav Ganguly: MS Dhoni must do more

”If Dhoni has got to play (till 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup ) then he has got to get in a position where he keeps hitting. If it is 24-25 overs and he has got to build an innings, he is struggling at the moment. He may turn it around as he has been a great player for India but at the present he is not turning it around enough and this has been going on for more than an year.”

Gautam Gambhir’s advice to MS Dhoni: Be more proactive

“The way MS played in the last innings (2nd ODI) and today as well, there has been a lot of dot balls,” said the Delhi batsman. “The way he is batting at the moment, he is putting pressure on the other batters as well.  He needs to be very much proactive”.

“The spell which you have seen of Rashid and Moeen in both the games, a lot has to be because of the way MS batted,” said Gambhir, adding “I have not seen MS play so many dot balls a couple of years back. There is something which he really needs to work on. Normally MS Dhoni is someone who takes his time. But then he is able to be aggressive in the last ten overs. But that is clearly missing in the last two games.”

Age is surely catching up: Sehwag on Dhoni

“I feel that Dhoni is not the same person that he was before. Age is surely catching up. He used to take the responsibility to take the match till the end. He could have converted the many dot balls he played into runs”
