Despite the spinners dominating, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor hung on to stitch a valuable unbeaten half-century partnership under pressure. With turn and bounce on offer, the scoring became tough for the duo. New Zealand are on 127 for two in 26 overs. Taylor is batting on 41 while Williamson is on 32.

Despite the slow scoring against the spinners, the Kiwis benefited from the sparkling start given by their openers at over eight runs an over.

Dhoni had persisted with his slower bowlers since the end of the first powerplay. After using Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in tandem, Dhoni brough in Stuart Binny after the drinks break and later even used Ambati Rayudu.

Taylor and Williamson were content picking the singles and occasionally charging down the track and lofting the spinners over the infield.
