Kolkata: Gearing up to host India‘s 250th Test on home soil when they face New Zealand in the second match from September 30, the Cricket Association of Bengal will felicitate both the teams and former Bengal captains with specially-minted silver coins. The coin will be embossed with “250” and will be presented to both the teams and former Bengal captains while the CAB has also invited BCCI president Anurag Thakur and other special invitees. “About 60 such coins will be minted. The coin will be presented to both the team members, former Bengal captains and the BCCI president who is also expected during match,” CAB joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya said. The CAB also has plans to make a special coin for the toss and 250 saplings will also be planted, an official said.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday listed a series of programmes it is planning when the second Test against New Zealand gets underway from September 30. India are currently playing their 500th Test in Kanpur where former men and women captains were felicitated on the first day. “The hallowed turf of Eden Gardens last hosted New Zealand half a century earlier and in that sense September 30, 2016 is another occasion of celebration,”, CAB joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya, said, reports IANS.
Keeping up with the tradition, the CAB has lined up a series of events for the second Test. To start with Eden Gardens will get its bell that will be rung to mark the beginning of the match. In addition, cricket zone, food stalls, drummers, flash mobs, caricature artists, stylist stations and a host of activities have been envisaged to keep the crowd buzzing.
