Ishant Sharma grabbed three early wickets to leave New Zealand at 41 for three after 18 overs on Day One of the second Test against India in Wellington on Friday. Ishant dismissed Hamish Rutherford (12), Peter Fulton (13) and Tom Latham (0) in his first spell.
MS Dhoni had won the toss and elected to field first at the Basin Reserve on February 14, 2014. The New Zealand openers began slowly, but looked solid as the Indian seamers took some time to find their length. The ball was swinging as there was a lot of grass on the wicket.
Rutherford gloved a bouncer from Ishant to Murali Vijay at first slip. Ishant then trapped Fulton on the pads with an in-coming delivery. Debutant Latham nicked a back of a length delivery to Dhoni behind the wickets.
Kane Williamson (9) and Brendon McCullum (6) are at the crease after 18 overs. Dhoni has used only Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Shami and Ishant so far.
