Williamson has been brought into the attack. He gives away five runs from his over. Sodhi will bowl the last over of the day. He bowls a half-volley and Dhawan reaches to the pitch of the delivery and hits it straight down the ground for a four. That is the 50-run partnership between Dhawan and Pujara. Dhawan knocks on outside off-stump to mid-on and takes a single. The last ball of the day hits Pujara on the pads and teh Kiwis appeal, but the umpire says not out. The ball would have gone down the leg side. Stumps have been called on Day Three. India are at 87 for one and they need 320 runs to win the first Test against New Zealand. That is it from us for now. Join us for live updates on Day Four.
Sodhi bowls one on off-stump and Dhawan works it away towards deep mid-wicket for three runs. Sodhi bowls a full-toss outside off-stump and Pujara hits that to long-off for a single. Sodhi bowls a back of a length delivery and Dhawan pushes it towards mid-wicket for a single. Wagner bowls a couple of bouncers at Dhawan and he has to duck underneath it. Sodhi drags one down the track and Pujara pulls that over the square-leg boundary for a six. Watling has chosen to sledge both Dhawan and Pujara now.
Corey Anderson bowls one straigt from round the wicket and Pujara pushes that back past him for a four. Ish Sodhi has been brought into the attack. He bowls a maiden over to Pujara. Wahner comes in and bowls a full delivery and Dhawan times that brilliantly through long-on for a four.
Southee bowls a length delivery and Dhawan pushes it to gully and takes off for a quick single. The running is not great as there a few mixups. But Kane Williamson slips as he throws and the ball misses the stumps at the striker’s end as Pujara completes the run. Boult bowls one short and wide and Pujara cuts that to backward-point. The ball slows down near the boundary and Pujara gets three runs. Wagner bowls a maiden over to Pujara. Wagner bowls one shor and wide and Dhawan cuts that though backward-point for a four.

Boult bowls a no-ball and Vijay gets two more runs through cover-point. Vijay then pushes one through covers for a single. Dhawan gets a single off Boult towards mid-off. Southee then bowls one down the leg side and Vijay seems to have edged it behind for wicketkeeper BJ Watling to take the catch. The umpire raises his finger and Vijay has to go back into dressing room. Replays show that the ball might have kissed the face of the bat before deflecting off the pads en route to Watling. Cheteshwar Pujara is the enw man in.
OUT! Vijay 13 (21)
Boult bowls an in-swinging delivery to Vijay and he flicks it to fine-leg for four runs. Boult bowls one on the pads and Vijay flicks it away for another four towards fine-leg. Southee bowls one full and wide outside off-stump and Dhawan drives that through covers for a four.
Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan walk out to bat for India. Trent Boult will begin proceedings for New Zealand. Vijay gets off the mark with a single towards fine-leg. Dhawan also gets off the mark with a single towards covers. Tim Southee comes into bowl. He bowls a good length delivery outside off-stump and Dhawan hits it in the air to Brendon McCullum at short extra-cover. McCullum dives forward and the ball seems to have gone into his hands, but it pops back out.

Jadeja comes into the attack. Wagner charges down the ground and misses. Dhoni fails to collect it as Wagner is stranded outside the crease. Jadeja then bowls one outside off-stump and Boult comes down the track. The ball turns and bounces sharply and goes wide of the bat, over Dhoni’s gloves and over Kohli at first slip. Ishant digs one in short and Wagner top-edges a pull straight to Jadeja at backward square-leg. That is the end of the New Zealand innings. They have been bowled out for 105 in their second innings. India need 407 runs to win the first Test. Ishant and Shami have got three wickets each.
OUT! Wagner 14 (21)
Shami comes in and bowls short. Wagner mistimes a flat-batted shot towards long-on for a four. Shami, unimpressed, bowls a sharp bouncer and Wagner is hit on the helmet while trying to pull. Ishant bowls a short delivery and Wagner smashes that through covers for a four. Rohit has been brought into the attack. He gives three runs from his over. Ishant bowls a back of a length delivery and Wagner flat-bats that to deep mid-off for a single.
Ishant bowls the first over after tea. On the second ball, Ishant bowls Watling. It was a back of a length delivery and Watling played at it on his back-foot. The ball took the inside-edge of the bat and crashed into the stumps. His laboured innings has finally come to an end. Neil Wagner is the new man in. Ishant bowls a length delivery and Sodhi edges it to Rohit Sharma at second slip. Trent Boult is the last man in.
OUT! Watling 11 (72), Sodhi 0 (5)
Jadeja bowls a maiden over to Watling. Zaheer comes in and Southee gets three twos in the first five deliveries. He then lofts the sixth delivery from Zaheer over long-on for a massive six. Jadeja comes in and Southee chips one in the air and straight to Chesteshwar Pujara at short mid-wicket. Ish Sodhi is the new man in and he survives two deliveries before tea. As the umpires call for tea, New Zealand are at 78 for seven. Although they are struggling in the innings, their lead over India is 379 runs and that is the most important thing. We will be back shortly after the tea interval.
OUT! Southee 14 (15)
Jadeja give two runs in his over. Zaheer comes in and bowls a length delivery outside off-stump. Taylor plays the cut, but it is straight to Ajinkya Rahane at gully, who takes a sharp catch. Now New Zealand are really in trouble in the innings. Tim Southee is the new man in.
OUT! Taylor 41 (73)
Ishant bowls a bouncer and cramps Taylor on the leg side. Taylor goes for the hook and gets a top-edge as the ball goes wide and over MS Dhoni for a four down fine-leg. Ishant bowls another bouncer down the leg side and Taylor hooks that over fine-leg for a six. He got a top-edge again, but there was more connection with the bat this time. The scoring apart from that has been quite slow. Dhoni has kept five slips for the New Zealand batsmen. Ishant comes from round the wicket to bowl at Watling. There is no fielder between gully and mid-off though. There is a forward short-leg and short mid-wicket.
Shami bowls a full delivery and Taylor hits it straight down the ground, but the ball hits the middle-stump at the non-striker’s end and it his no runs. Shami bowls one on the pads and Taylor lifts that over mid-wicket for a four. Ishant bowls another maiden, this time to Watling. Jadeja then bowls a maiden over to Taylor.
The luck is not favoring the Indian seamers at the moment. Both Shami and Zaheer have found the edge of the batsmen’s bats, but the ball has fallen short of the slip fielders on every occasion. Ishant has been brought into the attack. He bowls a maiden over to Taylor first up. Shami then bowls a tight over, but bowls a half-volley outside off-stump and Taylor drives through covers for a four. Ishant then bowls a maiden to Watling.
Welcome back. Shami and Zaheer are bowling to some tight lines to the New Zealand batsmen. Taylor is getting the singles wherever possible. Corey Anderson is finding it a little difficult to get going. In the first innings, he was scoring quickly, but the match situation is a little different. Shami then comes from round the wicket and pitches one just outside off-stump on a good length. The ball goes in-between bat and pads and hits the timber. New Zealand have lost half their side. BJ Watling is the new man in and he gets off the mark with a single towards mid-wicket off Shami’s bowling.
OUT! Anderson 2 (19)
Zaheer finds the outside edge of McCullum’s bat with an away going good length delivery. Murali Vijay drops an absolute sitter at first slip. The ball came at waist height, but Vijay bend down awkwardly on his left knee and git both his hands to it. Somehow he dropped the catch. McCullum gets off the mark with a single as the ball went behind the slip cordon. Taylor pushes a length delivery from Zaheer to square-leg and goes for the single. McCullum wants the second and takes off. Jadeja collects the ball and throws quickly on the turn to the non-striker’s end. Ishant comes in and bends really low and collects the ball and knocks the stumps. McCullum is short of his crease despite a despairing dive. Indians celebrate and Ishant himself is surprised with his fielding efforts. India have got some footing back into the match now. Lunch has been taken. New Zealand lead India by 316 runs.
OUT! McCullum 1 (2)
Shami bowls a length delivery and Taylor gets a thick edge on it, but the ball falls short of Virat Kohli at fourth slip. Taylor actually played that with soft hands. Shami bowls an in-swinging delivery and Taylor gets an inside-edge onto the pads and gets a single towards short mid-wicket to get off the mark. There is an appeal by Shami but it is waved off by the umpire. Zaheer bowls one straight and Williamson flicks it on the leg side. Jadeja positioned at short mid-wicket takes a stunning right-handed catch diving low to his right. Still New Zealand have the upper hand in the match. Brendon McCullum is the next man in.
OUT! Williamson 3 (17)
Shami bowls a full in-swinging delivery on the stumps and Williamson flicks it away for three runs through wide long-on to get off the mark. Shami bowls a full delivery and Fulton hits that on the up and in the air to Ravindra Jadeja at short extra-cover, who takes the catch. Two quick wickets have changed the situation slightly, but New Zealand still have the upper hand in the match. Ross Taylor is the new man in. Zaheer bowls a maiden over to Williamson.
OUT! Fulton 5 (11)
Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford walk out to bat for New Zealand. Mohammed Shami will begin proceedings for India. He is getting the ball to swing away from the right-handed Fulton. Shami bowls a length delivery and Fulton dabs on the off side and gets a quick single to get off the mark. Shami bowls one on leg-stump and gets it to straighten off a good length. Left-handed Rutherford misses and the Indians appeal for an LBW. The umpire raises his finger. Replays show that the ball would have hit middle and leg-stump. Kane Williamson is the next batsman in. Zaheer shares the new ball with Shami.
OUT! Rutherford 0 (1)

New Zealand will bat again.

Wagner bowls a length delivery and Jadeja hits that cleanly over wide long-off for a massive six. He then gets a single towards mid-wicket. Wagner bowls a back of a length delivery and Mohammed Shami gets a thick edge and the catch is taken by Peter Fulton at second slip. That is the end of India’s innings. They are bowled out for 202. They trail New Zealand by 301 runs. We have to wait and find out whether the follow-on will be used by New Zealand or not. The way the New Zealand openers entered the changing rooms would suggest that New Zealand want to bat again and put the result of this match to rest.
OUT! Shami 2 (3)
Anderson bowls a length delivery outside off-stump and Zaheer smashes it over cover for a four. Zaheer is throwing his bat almost everything now. Anderson bowls a length delivery and Zaheer hits on the up over short cover for two runs. Anderson then bowls one fuller outside off-stump and Zaheer again hits on the up and gets it over covers for a four. Wagner bowls a short delivery outside off-stump and Zaheer top-edges it to Watling behind the wickets. Ishant Sharma is the new man in. Southee bowls a length delivery and Ishant backs away and hits it in the air and straight to Boult at mid-off.
OUT! Zaheer 14 (16), Ishant 0 (3)
Neil Wagner has been brought into the attack. He pitches one on the off-stump line and makes it just move away slightly. Dhoni pushes at it and edges it to Watling behind the wickets. The wicketkeeper takes a good low catch. Zaheer Khan is the new man in. He gets off the mark with a drive through covers for a four.
OUT! Dhoni 10 (28)
Southee digs one in short and Dhoni pulls that to fine-leg for a single. Boult bowls one slightly on the leg side as Jadeja gives him the charge. He swings his bat and hits the ball in the air in-between mid-wicket and mid-on for two runs. Boult then bowls another down the leg side and the ball deflects off Jadeja’s thigh pad and goes for four leg-byes behind the wicket. Corey Anderson comes into the attack. He bowls a very wide delivery on the off side. Anderson then bowls a full delivery and Dhoni edges it. Wicketkeeper BJ Watling just moves slightly to his left and the ball goes in-between him and Taylor at first slip. Taylor too seems to be wider than usual.
Boult bowls one on the pads and Dhoni nudges it to long-leg for a single as he gets off the mark. Southee bowls one straight on a good length and Jadeja tries to flick it to the leg side. But the ball takes the leading edge and goes over short extra-cover for one run. Boult bowls one outside off-stump and Jadeja gets a thick edge through backward-point for a four. That is India’s 150.
Boult bowls a good length delivery with a stable seam angling in slightly. Rohit pushes at it a little hard and inside edges the ball onto the stumps. A little unlucky to get out like this, but very good bowling from the New Zealand bowlers so far. Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in. He gets off the mark with a push through extra-cover for two runs. Boult then bowls a brilliant riser from just back of a length and Jadeja has to sway away from it.
OUT! Rohit 72 (120)
Trent Boult will begin proceedings on Day Three. He bowls a maiden over to Rohit Sharma first up. Tim Southee then bowls a maiden over to Ajinkya Rahane. Boult bowls an in-swinging half-volley on the leg side and Rohit flicks it away for two runs towards fine-leg. Those are the first runs on the day. Boult then bowls a full delivery wide outside off-stump and Rahane pushes that towards cover-point. Brendon McCullum dives near the fence and flicks the ball in as he goes over the boundary. The batsmen run three. Southee bowls one outside off-stump and Rahane fishes at it and nicks it to Ross Taylor at second slip. That was an unnecessary shot from Rahane early on Day Three. India have lost half their side. MS Dhoni is the next batsman in.
OUT! Rahane 26 (70)
