Boult bowls a bouncer and Ishant gets a thick outside-edge onto it and Watling takes the catch. India lose by 40 runs. New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Wagner has finished with four wickets while Southee and Boult get three wickets each. Watling took six catches in the innings and a total of nine in the match.

Boult bowls a length delivery and Dhoni hits it in the air and through long-off for a four. Boult bowls a sharp short delivery and the ball hits the arm of Dhoni and goes over the wicketkeeper for four leg-byes. Dhoni knocks the ball on the leg side and takes off for a quick single on the last ball. Ishant is almost run-out as he takes his sweet own time, but the throw is not accurate. Wagner bowls a length delivery and Doni hits that over extra-cover for a four. Wagner then bowls a slower bouncer outside off-stump from round the wicket. Dhoni went for the pull but got a thick inside-edge and the ball clips the bail. Wagner’s landing foot seemed to have touched the wide crease line and the umpires wanted to have it checked. Although replays showed that his foot did touch the wide line while landing, but strangely the umpires decided to stick with the decision.

Boult bowls a length delivery and Dhoni flicks it in the air towards deep square-leg. The ball bounces before reaching Southee as the batsmen run one. Boult bowls a full delivery from round the wicket and Zaheer guides it past gully for one. Wagner comes back into the attack. Zaheer edges a length delivery to Ross Taylor in the slips. India have only two wickets left now. Ishant Sharma is the new man in.

Southee bowls a short delivery and Zaheer swings his bat at it and the ball goes over third-man for a six. Boult then bowls a maiden over to Zaheer. Southee bowls on one on the pads and Dhoni flicks it away for a single towards fine-leg. Southee bowls a full delivery and Zaheer hits that through extra-cover for two runs. Southee then bowls a low full-toss and Zaheer hits that through wide long-on for two more runs.
Southee digs one in short and Zaheer fends it off uncomfortably on the off side. Southee bowls a short delivery outside off-stump and Zaheer cuts that over backward-point for a four. Dhoni then takes a single towards cover.
Southee bowls a bouncer from round the wicket, but the ball goes over Jadeja and Watling for four byes. Jadeja then charges Southee and smashes the ball down the ground for another four. Boult bowls a short delivery outside off-stump and Jadeja plays a straight pull shot over long-on for a six. Boult bowls a fuller delivery and Jadeja hits it straight to Sodhi at mid-on. Boult bowls a length delivery and Dhoni hits that in the air over mid-wicket for a four. Dhoni then gets two quick runs through fine-leg. Boult bowls a half-volley and Dhoni hits that towards long-off for another four. India have crossed the 300-run plus mark.
The first ball after tea, Southee bowls a back of a length delivery moving away. Rohit is stuck in his crease and plays a defensive shot, but edges it to Watling behind the wickets. India are loosing wickets in quick succession. Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in and he hits the first he faces towards long-off for a four.

The new ball has been taken and Boult has been brought straight back into the attack. Boult bowls an in-swinger first ball and it hits the pads. The New Zealand players appeal and umpire Steve Davis raises his finger quickly. Replays show that the ball had taken a thick inside-edge off the bat and then hit the pads. Rahane was not happy. MS Dhoni is the new man in. He gets off the mark with a push towards covers for two runs. Tea is taken and India are at 270 for five. They need 137 runs more to win the match.

Sodhi bowls a slightly short delivery and Rahane goes on his back-foot and cuts the ball in front of point for a four. Wagner bowls a bouncer and Rahane ducks underneath it. Wagner bowls another short delivery and Rahane pulls it towards deep mid-wicket for a single. Sodhi bowls a short delivery down the leg side and Rahane hits that behind square on the leg side for a four.
Wagner bowls a bouncer and Dhawan sways away from it. Wagner bowls another short delivery and Dhawan pulls it towards deep square-leg for a single. Wagner bowls a full delivery from round the wicket and Rohit hits that in the air over mid-off. He only gets two runs as the ball stops short ahead of the boundary. Suddenly the New Zealand bowlers have got their intensity back. Southee bowls a testing maiden over to Rohit. Wagner then bowls a maiden over to Dhawan. Southee is bowling at a full length and is swinging the ball away from Rohit. Southee bowls a back of a length delivery and Rohit edges it on the bounce to Peter Fulton at second slip. The ball bounces low and Fulton is unable to stop it and the batsmen run one. Southee bowls on the pads to Dhawan from round the wicket. Dhawan flicks it for one towards mid-wicket.

He under-edges it and Watling takes a low diving catch. The partnership was worth 126 runs between Dhawan and Kohli. Sodhi bowls one outside off-stump and Dhawan comes down the ground and launches it over wide long-on for a six. He thinks that he has scored a century and gets his helmet off, but Kohli tells him that he is one run short. Dhawan then cuts a length delivery for a four towards point and reaches his second century. He then slaps a leg side delivery from Sodhi towards fine-leg for a four. Southee bowls a bouncer and Kohli pulls and gets a top-edge for a four behind the wicketkeeper.
Anderson bowls one short and wide and Dhawan cuts that over gully for a four. Sodhi bowls a short delivery and Kohli pulls that for a four through mid-wicket. Anderson bowls a full-toss and Dhawan drives that through mid-off for a four. Anderson comes in from round the wicket and bowls one very wide on the off side to Dhawan. The umpire signals that as a wide. Williamson boels a full delivery and Kohli drives through long-off for a four. That is also his half-century. Kohli has now scored his ninth Test half-century. Williamson bowls one short and wide and Dhawan cuts that through point for a four. That is also lunch on Day Four. India are at 180 for two. They need another 227 runs to win.

That is what New Zealand want and Kohli is lucky not to lose his wicket there. Corey Anderson comes into the attack and bowls one back of a length. Kohli pulls that away for a four towards long-leg. Ish Sodhi comes in. He bowls one one off-stump and Kohli pulls that away for a four through mid-wicket. Sodhi then bowls a full-toss outside off-stump and Kohli drives that through extra-cover for a four. Sodhi then bowls a half-volley outside off-stump through cover for another four. The 150 is up for India.

Southee has kept Kohli really quite in the morning session as he bowls another maiden over to him. Wagner bowls a maiden over to Dhawan immediately. Southee bowls one on the pads and Kohli flicks it in-between the fielders at short square-leg and short mid-wicket for two runs. Neil Wagner bowls a maiden over to Dhawan. Southee bowls a bouncer and the ball takes off the surface and misses the outstretched hands of Watling and goes for a one-bounce four byes. Southee bowls an in-swinging good length delivery and it hits Kohli on the pads. The New Zealand bowlers appeal, but the umpire says not out immediately. Replays show that the ball would have gone above the stumps, so, a very good decision from him.
Boult bowls a length delivery on the pads and Dhawan flicks it away through deep mid-wicket for three runs. Southee bowls a back of a length delivery on middle-stump and the ball left Cheteshwar Pujara after pitching. He had to play at it and edged it to BJ Watling behind the wickets. Fantastic delivery from Southee. Virat Kohli is the new man in. Southee bowls another back of a length delivery and Kohli pushes that to gully. There is an overthrow from Kane Williamson and Kohli gets two runs to get off the mark.

Tim Southee will begin proceedings on Day Four for New Zealand. Shikhar Dhawan gets a single towards mid-off and that is his half-century. In fact, this is Dhawan’s first 50-plus score in Tests since his sensational debut against Australia when he scored 187 runs. Boult will bowl from the other end.

 

Hello and welcome to the live updates of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Auckland. I am Shrikant Shankar and I will be bringing you the updates of Day Four of the Test. India had won the toss on Day One and elected to bowl first. New Zealand went onto to post 503 in their first innings. Brendon McCullum top-scored with 224 and Kane Williamson scored 113. Corey Anderson contributed with 77. Ishant Sharma was the pick of the Indian bowlers taking six wickets for 134 runs.

 

In reply, India were bowled out for 202. Rohit Sharma scored 72. New Zealand were then bowled out for 105, giving India a 407-run target. India are at 87 for one at stumps on Day Three.
