This Test match also marks the 500th Test for India and they would certainly eye to finish it on a high. New Zealand after a solid start to their campaign somehow lost the momentum in the middle.

India won the toss and elected to bat first and did the right job it seems. India got off to a good start with openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay scoring cautiously and was equally backed by Cheteshwar Pujara at three. Skipper Virat Kohli failed to make any impact and floundered early on in the innings. Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Aswhin and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with some priceless runs lower down the order and helped their side post a fighting total of 318. India vs New Zealand Live score, 1 Test, Day 5

New Zealand started off well and were comfortably placed at 152 for 1 at stumps on Day 2. Tom Latham and Kane Williamson were alive at the crease and looked solid. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja remained wicketless on Day 2 and had a long day ahead. Day three belonged to Indian spinners as they ran through New Zealand batting in no time. From being 152 for 1, they slumped to 219 for 4 and were eventually dismantled for 262.

Indian batsmen once again started well and KL Rahul played a good hand of 38. Once again Pujara and Vijay built a solid platform for the middle-order to capitalise on. They scored some brisk run as India were well placed at 159 for the loss of one wicket. The next day started with an early blow for India in the form of Murali Vijay. But Rohit Sharma and Jadeja once again stepped up and garnered some quick runs to steer India to a dominating position.

When New Zealand cam into bat, they had no idea of the storm, which was about to hit them. Ashwin once again inflicted damage with the new ball and chipped two wickets in an over to put New Zealand on the back foot. He scripted history with the wicket of Kane Williamson, which was also his 200th Test wicket and also became the second fastest to have achieved it.

New Zealand were precariously placed 93 for the loss of four wickets at the end of Day 4 and have a mountain to climb on Day 5. India will look to wrap things up early on Day 5 and gain a lead in the three-match series.
