New Zealand XI batsman Robert O’Donnell essayed a half-century as the hosts dominated the first session of the day in the warm-up match against India at Whangarei.
New Zealand XI reached 102 for the loss of two wickets at lunch with O’Donnell (52) and Jonno Hickey (4) unbeaten crease.
O’Donnell fifty came off 89 balls, smashing eight fours and four sixes.
The hosts lost only two wickets in the first session. George Worker was caught leg before by Ravichandran Ashwin, while Anton Devich was dismissed by Zaheer Khan.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field. Neither MS Dhoni nor Virat Kohli is playing the match.
