India swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two quick wickets as Pakistan got off to a shaky start in their chase of 228 in the first One-Day International (ODI) at Chennai. However, they recovered to 99 for two in 25 overs and still need another 129 runs in 25 overs to win.
Kumar got Mohammad Hafeez (0) on the first ball of the innings, which was also his first ever delivery in ODIs. He became only the second Indian to do so after Sadagoppan Ramesh. The Uttar Pradesh bowler then got rid of Azhar Ali in the 11th over to peg Pakistan to 21 for two as the Indians snapped around for wickets.
However, India’s perennial tormenter Younis Khan rescued his side from a collapse and set up a ()-run partnership along with Nasir Jamshed for the third wicket.
At the mid-way stage of the innings, Pakistan are steadily moving towards their target.
Brief Scores: India 227 for 6 in 50 overs (MS Dhoni 113*, Suresh Raina 43, R Ashwin 31*; Junaid Khan 4 for 43) vs Pakistan 99 for 2 in 25 overs (Younis Khan 42*, Nasir Jamshed 43*; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2 for 11)
