Virat Kohli scored his eighth Test half-century as India are at 101 for two after 40 overs on Day One of the first Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. Cheteshwar Pujara is batting on 23 and Kohli is on 55. The duo have put together a partnership of 77 runs.
India began the post-lunch session with their score at 70 for two. Shikhar Dhawan (13) and Murali Vijay (6) were the wickets to fall in the first session on Wednesday.
The South African bowlers have bowled some tight lines and lengths and have generally kept the Indian batsmen in check. But Kohli got a four as Vernon Philander bowled one short and wide. Kohli cut hard and got a four through the cover-point region.
Dale Steyn then bowled a bouncer and Kohli, almost expecting it, pulled it brilliantly through square-leg for another four. He then cut a short and wide delivery from Morne Morkel for another four behind point.
Kohli got to his half-century off 76 balls with a four through deep mid-wicket off Imran Tahir.
