South Africa have crossed the 50-run mark in their first innings of the first Test against India in Johannesburg. Their score is at 51 for one after 18 overs. Graeme Smith is batting on 19 and Hashim Amla is on eight. They trail India by 229 runs after bowling them out for 280 early on Day Two.
Alviro Petersen was the only wicket to fall so far for 21 off 41 balls. He was dismissed by Ishant Sharma leg-before. India captain MS Dhoni has used three bowlers in Zaheer Khan, Ishant and Mohammed Shami.
Ravichandran Ashwin dropped a chance to dismiss Smith. The South African captain edged one from Zaheer, but Ashwin at first slip was slow to react and failed to catch it.
