South Africa are at 178 for six after 56 overs in their first innings of the first Test against India in Johannesburg. Faf du Plessis (8) and Vernon Philander (23) are at the crease on Day Two. South Africa trail India’s 280 all out by 105 runs.
After India had picked up three quick wickets through Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Shami decided to get in amongst the wickets. The right-handed seamer bowled a length delivery and JP Duminy edged it straight to Murali Vijay at first slip for two off 12 balls.
Then two deliveries later, he trapped AB de Villiers leg-before for 13 off 21 balls. South Africa had lost more than half their side. The scoring became very slow after that as both du Plessis and Philander played cautiously.
