Members of the Indian cricket team were seen ‘congratulating’ former India batsman VVS Laxman for the shirt that he was seen wearing during the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) against South Africa in Kolkata. While the final game of the series was washed out much to the disappointment for the hosts, they decided to lighten the mood up with the message, in which off-spinner Harbhajan Singh along with MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and the rest of the team are seen holding a banner which reads “Laxman we love your shirt.” The flamboyant Hyderabad-born former batsman was seen wearing a blue shirt with bird patterns all over it. It set the social media, especially Twitter, abuzz with eminent commentators and on-screen personalities such as Harsha Bhogle and Gaurav Kapur posting tweets on the topic. FULL SCORECARD: India vs South Africa 3rd T20I at Kolkata
The third and final T20I between India and South Africa, which was set to take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, was washed out after a spell of rain, with the outfield remaining wet for a long time after the shower that ultimately played its part in forcing the officials to call the match off. South Africa won the series 2-0 as a result, having won the first two games at Dharamsala and Cuttack by margins of seven and six wickets respectively.
The second T20I in Cuttack was marred by incidents of hooliganism, where irate spectators began to throw bottles towards the ground following their team’s poor performance (India were bowled out for a lowly 92). The incident was widely condemned by the cricket community, with several current and former players voicing their dissent against it. EXCLUSIVE: VVS Laxman says
