On a challenging Wanderers pitch, India were on top with a lead of 42 runs on Day 2 of the third and final Test against South Africa. They put up 49 runs on board with loss of a wicket. Parthiv Patel who played a gritty knock of 16 was caught at gully off Vernon Philander. Meanwhile, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul saw India through at the close of the day remaining unbeaten on 13 and 16 respectively.

Earlier, Hashim Amla steading the ship with his patience knock of 61 from 121 deliveries. Supporting him was Kagiso Rabada who also scored a patient 84-ball 34 with third wicket stand of 64 along with Amla. However, the Indian bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals bundling South Africa for 194. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah shared 7 wickets between them.

Apart from  wickets tumbling and some runs scored, several players were being nursed after injuring their fingers or hands. Morne Morkel and Philander were struck on their right hand that were treated instantly.
