As a comparatively inexperienced Sri Lanka team registered a thumping victory over hosts India in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) of the three-match series between the two nations, former Sri Lanka skipper and batting legend Kumar Sangakkara praised the efforts of the bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Dasun Shanaka. The visiting team bowled out the batting-heavy Indian team for a mere 101 and later on clinched a comfortable victory to start the series on a high note. Sangakkara, who has been the hero of many matches for the Lankan side, stated that it was their bowling that helped Sri Lanka bag a clean win over giants India. In his blog for The Times of India, the stalwart cricketer wrote, “The bowling unit, despite missing the seasoned Rangana Herath and Nuwan Pradeep, did well to keep the pressure on an arguably superior Indian batting line-up on a track that had more bounce and seam than one would expect in India. We are used to low and slow pitches, and the rookie pace trio of Dasun Shanaka, Kasun Rajitha and Dushmantha Chameera took fine advantage of the green cover.” READ: India vs Sri Lanka 2015-16: Tickets for third T20I match to go on sale tomorrow

He also went on to point out the fact that there was not much expectations on the team that helped them to go easy. He praised the youngsters for the way they managed the situation of not having experienced players in the side and won it based on their own potentials. He wrote, “Missing their big stars in Angelo Mathews, Tillakaratne Dilshan and regular captain Lasith Malinga, they were clear underdogs. But this young team managed to pull off a great win against an experienced and strong Indian side. And the icing on the cake is that Sri Lanka are back on top of the ICC Twenty20 rankings.”

Sri Lanka will face India in the next T20I at Ranchi on February 12 and look to seal the series straight away while India will seek resurgence as a T20I series win prior to ICC World T20 2016 will boost the confidence of the winners.
