Shami Ahmed got his first wicket on debut dismissing Kieran Powell for 28. Powell was dismissed by a well-directed short ball. He tried to pull it and the ball lobbed in the air which was caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar running backwards at mid-off. West Indies are 51 for the loss of two wickets on Day One of the first Test against India at Kolkata.
Both the opening pace bowlers have a wicket now with Chris Gayle dismissed by Bhuvneshwar earlier. Kumar got the first breakthrough for India dismissing Chris Gayle for 18. There was no real footwork from Gayle and looked tentative. The edge flew straight to Mural Vijay at second slip.
Marlon Samuels is the new batsman at No 4.
This is Sachin Tendulkar’s penultimate Test. The maestro is set to retire after his 200th Test.
