India after a magnificent display with the bat in the first innings, when came out to bowl to the West Indies on Day 2, managed to scalp a wicket in the final session of play. Rajendra Chandrika was sent packing his bags after he nicked one Mohammed Shami delivery to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and was out for 16. At the end of the first day’s play West Indies were 31 for 1. Kraigg Brathwaite was joined at the crease by Devendra Bishoo. India ended their day with a smile as they had put a fantastic performance on Day 2 to take firm control of the Test. With the notable exception of Shannon Gabriel, all the West Indies bowlers were made to look pedestrian especially by the excellence of Kohli’s batting on a pitch that has almost nothing by way of encouragement in pace and bounce. His almost complete dominance of the bowlers extended through the morning as he continued to march his side forward at the expense of flagging opponents. By the time he had fallen to Gabriel immediately upon the resumption in the afternoon, his six hours at the crease had occupied 283 deliveries, striking 24 boundaries. Apart from the personal milestone, Kohli is the first Indian captain to score a Test double-century away from home.
Ashwin meanwhile registered his 3rd hundred, all of which have come against West Indies. He was joined by Saha and then Mishra after Kohli’s dismissal.
