Indian captain MS Dhoni decided to bat first after winning the toss against England at Ahmedabad in the first of the four-match Test series at Ahmedabad on Thursday. Dhoni said there will be little assistance for the fast bowlers at Ahmedabad.
The series has already been termed by the Indian media as a ‘revenge series’. The Indian team management may refrain from acknowledging it but the players would want nothing but triumph on home soil against England, especially after the drubbing they received last year in the Old Blighty.
England, still seeking their first Test series win in India since 1984-85 seem upbeat to take on the hosts. The Alastair Cook-led England team, however, will find it challenging against India’s new spin twins, Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha – despite the return of feisty batsman Kevin Pietersen – on turning tracks. Moreover, injury worries to few players has not been good news for the visitors ahead of the series opener.
