South Africa Women were 85 for the loss of three wickets on Day 2 of the only Test match, in response to India Women’s first innings total of 400 for six. The star of the day was Thirush Kamini who narrowly missed her double hundred as she was dismissed on 192. She was well supported by Poonam Raut.

Resuming from their overnight score of 211 for the loss of one wicket, the Indian women lost their first wicket of the day after adding 72 runs to their overnight total. The Indians were cruising at 344 for two when the South Africans decided to strike back, with the last three wickets falling for just 16 runs.

Sunette Loubser emerged the pick among the South African bowlers with figures of three for 90 from 32.4 overs, including the dismissal of Indian skipper Mithali Raj. Chloe Tryon, Yolani Fourie and Dane van Niekerk were the other wicket-takers among the visitors.

The South African Women added 37 runs before they lost two wickets in quick succession. Nadine Moodley and skipper Mignon du Preez added 46 for the third wicket before Moodley was dismissed ten runs shy of a half-century. In the bowling department, Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up two wickets while Poonam Yadav snared one. At stumps, du Preez was batting on 28 while Marcia Letsoalo was batting on zero.

Considering there are just two days left in the match, Indian bowlers can’t afford to take it easy and will need to make early strikes into the batting order.

Brief scores:

India Women 400 for 6 (Thirush Kamini 192, Poonam Raut 130; Sunette Loubser 3 for 90) lead South Africa Women 85 for 3 (Nadine Moodley 40; Rajeshwari Gayakwad 2 for 20) by 315 runs.
