India’s selectors have a plethora of options when they sit to pick the Indian One-Day International (ODI) squad for the tour of England on Tuesday. The last time India played ODIs was on the tour to Bangladesh, when India fielded a weak side led by Suresh Raina. That team also featured the likes of Robin Uthappa, Cheteshwar Pujara, Parvez Rasool among others. For this important series, one expects MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and the rest who form the core to return.

There is a sense that the recent Quadrangular series in Australia may have a bearing on this side. Though Umesh Yadav did not play in the one-day side, there are murmurs that he could be considered. It may not be a bad option after all. Varun Aaron and Ishwar Pandey, who are a part of India’s Test squad also stand a chance. But, they would hope the likes of Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar return to full fitness. Stuart Binny is also a contender and given his inspiring performances in Bangladesh, he is likely to be retained.

As far as the batting goes, there are many options at their disposal. Kedar Jadhav is one man who has a strong case for selection on this tour given his splendid performances Down Under. With the frontline side returning, one also expects Ambati Rayudu to hold on to his spot. But, Uthappa and Pujara may have an outside chance of retaining their respective places.  Raina too did his reputation no harm in Bangladesh and could be on his way to return.

In the spinners department, Ravichandran Ashwin should return for sure with Ravindra Jadeja being the all-rounder. Amit Mishra may not be picked given that India already have two spinners for English conditions. There shouldn’t be any major surprises, but a couple of spots are still up for grabs.

India squad for ODIs (Probable): MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Stuart Binny, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Varun Aaron, Ishwar Pandey, Parvez Rasool/Akshar Patel.
