In IPL 2018 auction, Chris Gayle wasn’t retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), nor did they use RTM card for the Universe Boss. In the last day of auction, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bought him for a base price of INR 2 crores. The reason was to maintain a power-hitting lineup, and use Gayle’s (waning) potential to the maximum. In addition, Gayle missed the first two matches for his new franchise. In the ongoing KXIP’s home clash versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gayle (re)announced himself for KXIP with a 22-ball fifty.

How Gayle slammed his 22nd IPL fifty

Gayle got off the mark with a four off Harbhajan Singh. He continued to dismantle Bhajji, and added few more boundaries playing with the turn and lashing onto the short deliveries. However, the momentum went his way completely after smashing Deepak Chahar (20 runs) in the sixth over. Apart from an edge, Gayle’s innings comprised of sheer power and brutal force to send the ball(s) into the stands. He played straight, and ensured no half-measures while taking the aerial route.

How many will he add for KXIP? Will Dhoni pull off a miracle to stop him?
