The Match 32 of VIVO IPL 2018  will see Delhi Daredevils (DD) take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their own backyard at the Feroz Shah Kotla. In their first encounter this season, DD lost to RR by 10 runs (DLS method) in a rain-curtailed chase of 6 overs. That match was halted in the first innings under 18 overs in which RR managed to score 153 runs. It was very unlikely for the match to commence, but a six-over chase followed with DD needing 70. Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris fought hard scoring some quick runs but failed to win it for DD.

DD are at the bottom of the table with only two wins. Shreyas Iyer  was appointed as the captain after Gautam Gambhir stepped down. He has done well for the team in two games. He won the first one on his own scoring 93* and lost to Chennai Super Kings by mere 13 runs in the last match. The biggest positive for DD in the season is the form of young players like Rishabh Pant, Iyer and Prithvi Shaw.

Shaw was added later in the XI and has already scored 93 runs in three matches. However, the biggest drawback for them is the opening combination, with Gambhir opting to sit out they are only left with Colin Munro and Jason Roy as the other options. Roy played a match-winning knock in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) but has been inconsistent since then. Munro, on the other hand, is still struggling to find form. He has scored 63 runs in four matches. In the bowling department, Trent Boult  has been doing well for them with 11 wickets in 8 matches but no other bowler has supported him well. Even Boult was taken to cleaners in their last encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

For the RR’s have won three of their seven matches and are ranked fifth in the points table. Their head-to head record against DD is impressive, having won 11 of their 17 matches. In their last encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) they failed to chase down a total of 152 losing by 11 runs. The biggest drawback for them is the form of big players like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. Jofra Archer’s addition to the squad has added more strength to the bowling department. Sanju Samson has been in good touch and so has Ajinkya Rahane but the latter has not been able to pull off games for RR>

DD will have to win all their matches from here on to stay alive in the tournament.

Predictions

DD’s last win against RR came in 2012. Both the teams have been in dismal form this season. Considering the fact that the match will be played at Delhi and the hosts have nothing to lose, DD will start as favourites.
